Cooper was rescued, along with five other dogs, from the freezing cold and knee-high snow last winter. The terrified dogs were left out in the frigid temperatures by the people who were supposed to protect and care for them.

The dogs were skin and bones, dehydrated, covered in dried fecal matter, and infested with fleas. At the Humane Society for Tacoma & Pierce County, we could see that sensitive Cooper was in the worst shape of all. He was covered in thick mats of fur that pulled at his skin and created painful sores, and he was so severely underweight that his muscle had started to waste away.

Even as fragile as he was, Cooper was incredibly sweet and craved affection. It breaks our hearts that after everything he’d been through, he still wanted to love and trust humans.

Cooper felt immediate relief to finally be rid of the heavy fur as we shaved his whole body. After carefully cleaning his wounds and applying bandages to his sores, the shivering pup was put in a warm sweater and placed in a bed of blankets to help the chills coursing through him.

With a steady flow of nutritious food and diligent treatment of his wounds, Cooper was healing physically, and his eyes began to sparkle again! After two months, Cooper was transformed into a happy and healthy boy.
